Every single desktop or notebook or web server is run by an Operating System - the low-level program which interacts with the hardware, including peripheral devices such as a mouse and a printer, together with any applications that are present on your system. Any program input through a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI) is processed by sending an Application Program Interface (API) request to the Operating System. On a web server, each app runs within the parameters specified by the OS as well - priority, physical memory, processing time, and so on. This goes for both standard site scripts and server-side software such as a media server. When a virtual server is generated on a physical one, there can be two different Operating Systems, referred to as guest OS and host OS, so you will be able to set up a different software environment on a single machine.

Multiple OS in VPS Servers

If you select one of our VPS server packages, you'll have as many as 3 different Operating Systems to pick from - CentOS, Debian and Ubuntu. They are all Linux releases and we offer them rather than offering just one OS, as the apps that you may want to run on the server may have specific requirements about the software environment. Each of the three has certain pros regarding the available plans that you may later on install, but what's common between them is the fact that they're really secure and reliable and have vast communities that support them. The hosting Control Panel choices for the VPS accounts depend on your Operating System choice, in order to give you more flexibility. When you order the virtual server with one OS and you need another one later, our technical support team can easily reinstall the VPS with the new one in a matter of minutes. We also offer the option to keep the Operating System on your server up-to-date weekly.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers

If you decide to obtain one of our dedicated servers, you'll find three Operating Systems on the order page because we want to give you a broader choice for the system environment on the machine as different applications can have certain requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian come with different modules developed by their large support communities, so you can select each of these OSs and benefit from a reliable and safe hosting service. Depending on your decision, you'll also have different Control Panels to choose from. Needless to say, we can always change the Operating System if the one you have selected at first does not meet the requirements of the software which you'd like to run. We can also update your OS regularly in order to keep it as secure as possible through our Managed Services upgrade package.
